ESC-Guidelines – Treatment of Cardiovascular diseases during pregnancy – 2011

In 2011, the first guidelines with classified recommendations for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases during pregnancy were prepared under the coordination of Prof. Vera Regitz-Zagrosek and published by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). Pregnant women with heart disease should be advised and cared for early by an interdisciplinary team of gynecologists, pediatric and adult cardiologists, and possibly cardiac surgeons, to minimize maternal and fetal mortality. Since the individual physician will rarely be confronted with these patients, such guidelines are of particular importance.
