Professor Paul has authored more than 200 research papers in the fields of molecular medicine, pharmacology, clinical pharmacology and cardiovascular disease. He has been active in several professional organizations and most prominently has acted as chair of DEAN, a European Network of deans, as president of the German Society of Pharmacology, Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology (DGPT) and as president of the European Council for Cardiovascular Research (ECCR).
Vita Prof. Dr. Martin Paul
Professor Paul has a chair in Clinical Pharmacology and is currently Vice President of the Board and Dean of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences of Maastricht University Medical Center (MUMC+ ) in the Netherlands.
He studied medicine at Heidelberg University and did his thesis work in Pharmacology at the University of California San Diego. After graduating in 1986 he worked in the Division of Vascular Medicine at Harvard University and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, USA. Returning to Germany in 1990 he did research in Cardiovascular Pharmacology at Heidelberg University. In 1995 he was appointed as Full Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at the Freie Universität (FU) Berlin and in 1997 as Chairman of the Institute of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, a position he held until 2008.
From 1997 to 2003 he was Dean of the Medical Faculty of the FU and from 2004 to 2008 Dean and Vice President of the Executive Board of the Charité Medical Center in Berlin. As dean of the Charité he has initiated the formation of an independent institute for Gender Research in Medicine.
